Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue with an AppsFlyer query in Google Sheets that triggers a timeout error (Error: AppsFlyer failure - Data Source Error: Gateway Timeout). This problem has been ongoing for over a month and is specifically affecting certain accounts, while other AppsFlyer accounts work fine without any issues.

Despite following the recommendations provided by the support team and trying shorter date ranges, the error persists. Additionally, I was informed about a 90-day limit for event data, but this doesn't seem to apply in my case, as I’m using the segment for other accounts this year up until the current date.

The Supermetrics support team is investigating the issue, but I wanted to ask if anyone in the community has experienced this type of error and if they have any additional suggestions or possible solutions to resolve it, as this is a critical function for our work.

Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi all, 🤗

We want to extend a sincere apology for the delay in responding to this thread. We're here now to provide some general guidance for anyone who might encounter a similar "Gateway Timeout" or "ScriptError" issue.

This type of error is often related to the volume or complexity of a data request, which can cause the query to time out before completing. If you're running into this, here are some general troubleshooting steps that can help.

General Tips for "Gateway Timeout" Errors

1. Simplify Your Query
Large, complex queries are the most common cause of timeouts. Try breaking them down into smaller, more manageable parts.

  • Try a smaller date range: Instead of pulling years of data, start with a week or a month to see if the query succeeds.

  • Reduce the number of fields: Try selecting fewer metrics and dimensions in your query setup. The less data you request at once, the faster and more stable the connection will be.

2. Check Your Data Source's Status
Sometimes, the issue might be on the data source's end.

  • It can be helpful to check the status page of the platform you're connecting to (e.g., AppsFlyer, Facebook Ads, etc.) to see if they are reporting any ongoing API issues or degraded performance.

3. Consider Your Destination's Limits
Different destinations like Google Sheets or Looker Studio have limitations on how much data they can process at once.

  • For very large datasets: If you consistently need to pull significant volumes of data, using a destination designed for large-scale data, like a data warehouse (e.g., BigQuery), is often the most robust solution.

We hope these general tips help point you in the right direction. If you've tried these steps and are still experiencing difficulties, please don't hesitate to contact our support team directly. They can investigate further and provide personalised assistance.
